Monastery of St. James the Brother of God
The Holy cenobitic monastery of St. James the Brother of God is built at the foot of Mount Chortiatis in Thessaloniki and at 600 meters altitude. Beekeepers – monks in the region produce excellent monastery products such as honey, wax creams, St. John’s wort oil, laurel oils, soap with honey and olive oil, halva and honey derivatives, recognized for their superior quality and unique efficacy.
The Holy cenobitic monastery of St. James the Brother of God is built at the foot of Mount Chortiatis in Thessaloniki and at an altitude of about 600 meters. It is 2 km from Peristera village where there is the church of the erstwhile historic Monastery of Peristerion (9th century AD), whose patron is St. Euthymius in Peristerais. The Monastery of St. James the Brother of God was founded in 1993. The monastery holds a large number of pieces of the Holy Wood and many miraculous images.
It has a large library with numerous manuscripts and original books as well as large number of relics. It also has 14 Metochia with respective churches in the city of Thessaloniki.
