Holy Monastery of Docheiariou

In the 10th century and according to the A’ Typical, the Monastery ranked twentieth in the hierarchy of the Athonite monasteries while today it holds the tenth position. The main church is covered with frescoes that were created by the Cretan Georgie in 1568.

Its frescoes are wonderful and unique. The temple and the ciborium, rich in shapes and floral decoration, were manufactured in 1783. It is perhaps one of the finest that can be found on Mount Athos. The library contains 441 manuscripts, 62 of which are parchments from the 11th and the 14th century, while the printed books are more than 5,000 in number. In honor of Virgin Mary there is a chapel where the miraculous image of Panagia Gorgoepikoos can be found. Feast Day: Archangels Michael and Gabriel
