Holy Monastery of Konstamonitou
According to the tradition the founders of the monastery are Constantine the Great and his son Constas. The existence of the Holy Monastery is noted in the 11th century. Here the Holy icon of Panagia Hodeghetria (from the 12th century) -a gift of Anne the Philanthropini – and the icon of Virgin Mary Antifonitria are stored.
The icon of St. Stephen (8th century) is kept here, which arrived miraculously during the period of Byzantine iconoclasm from Palestine. The library has 110 manuscripts from the 12th to the 18th century. A rare manuscript which refers to the martyrdom of the Mount Athos monks during the Revolution of 1821 is also stored here.
Feast: Saint Stephen.
