Holy Monastery of Pantokrator

It is located on the eastern side of the peninsula and was founded in the mid 14th century. The Monastery of Pantokrator has been destroyed several times by pirates or fires but it was always rebuilt thanks to the mercies of the devout Christians and rulers.

The oldest frescoes of the church have been attributed to the Macedonian School and more specifically to Panselinos or his students, but this cannot be proven. In the sanctuary of the Monastery there is a piece of the Robe of Christ and many Holy relics. In the library of the monastery 350 manuscripts and more than 3,500 printed books are kept. Here the miraculous image of Virgin Mary called the “Abbess” can also be found. Feast Day: Transfiguration of Christ
