Holy Monastery of St. Panteleimon
The current monastery of St. Panteleimon was built after the age 1760 close to the small monastery of the Resurrection, which was built by Bishop Christopher from Ierissos.
From the 14th century onwards it is referred as the Monastery of the Russians, while the abbots’ sign in Greek .In the main church of the Monastery the memorial ceremonies are held in two languages , i.e. Greek and Russian. In the chapel of the Assumption the ceremonies are held in Greek, while in the chapel of St Metrophanes only in Russian.
The bell tower has many bells; the largest one weights 13 tons and has a diameter of 2.70 meters. The library contains about 1320 Greek and 600 Slavic manuscripts. The printed books are 30,000 in number. Numerous holy relics are kept here as well.
