Description

Gold Plated Lithography with Saint Eustratios

Saint Eustratios came from Tarsia in Asia Minor and while he was very young he left his parents and he went to Bithynia to a Holy Monastery where his uncles were monks. Every day he was helping and served everyone and according to historical sources he was not interested in material goods. In fact he had nothing in his possession except for one garment and a cloth of sheep wool. He eventually became abbot of the monastery, but when the heresy of iconoclasm began to spread he left and returned to his homeland. But as soon as the holy icons were restored he came back at the Monastery. He died at the age of 95 and his memory is honored on January 9th.
