Description

Lithography with Archangel Michael

A lithography with Major General Michael or Archangel Michael. His face has youthful features and has been painted with dense touches following the Byzantine tradition. The faithful and devoted to God Archangel Michael is the defender of the poor and weak people. He protects them from the evil and the hateful devil’s hatred. In countless cases, this protection has been manifested by miraculous events. Primarily, however, as our Church teaches, he protects the souls of the people who are eager to the Lord, from the attacks of the demons and their efforts to prevent souls in their course to God. Archangel Michael is the one who appeared to Abraham at Isaac’s sacrifice. Then to Lot when he redeemed him with his family from the Sodom disaster. He appeared to Jacob when he was saved by his brother Esau who wanted to murder him.

Lithography: Characteristics

A beautiful lithography with the representations of Archangel Michael. Monks are learning the technique of lithography at iconography workshops at Mount Athos so they can create with love and patience these excellent artworks. At this icon the monk used a lithographic copy of Byzantine art to create this artwork. He also applied the process of artificial maturation by hand to give this icon unique aesthetic value. Lithography is a method of printing originally based on the immiscibility of oil and water.
