Description

Engraved Lithography with the Entrance of the Mother of God

Saint Anne prayed to God to claim her and her husband Joachim to have a child, whom they had promised to dedicate to God. Indeed, their prayers were answered and Saint Anne gave birth to the Virgin Mary, the woman who would give birth to the Savior Jesus Christ. When the Virgin Mary was three years old, according to tradition, her parents took her to the Temple and handed her over to High Priest Zacharias. The high priest led the Virgin Mary to the Holy of Holies because of the future role of the Virgin Mary in the incarnation of the Lord, something that had become known to him through Divine intervention. The Virgin Mary stayed there for a total of twelve years, while according to tradition, all this time the archangel Gabriel brought heavenly food to Her.

Engraved Lithography: Characteristics

A wonderful icon, which has been created with the technique of lithography and is upgraded in quality and aesthetics thanks to the engraved natural wood, but also the gold leaf, which is used in the background of the representation. The technique of lithography is very widespread and is taught in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos, while at the same time it is used by several monks to create exceptional works of art. At this icon the monk used a lithographic copy of Byzantine art to create this artwork, while it is worth mentioning that the natural wood of the icon is worked exclusively by hand.
