Description

This unique work of Byzantine art has been crafted on natural wood with the method of the quality silk-screen printing. Saint Demetrius is illustrated killing the Bulgarian Czar Skylogiannis, while riding a horse with his military uniform, an incident that took place during the siege of Thessaloniki in October of 1204.

This particular illustration of the Saint is quite common on the northern parts of Greece from the 15th century and on. The iconography workshop of father Peukis, where this artwork has been crafted, is distinguished for the vivid and vibrant colors in the icons that it delivers.
