Description

One of the most beloved Saints of the Greek Orthodoxy, who lived in the late 3rd century AD and the early 4th, during the reign of Diocletian. His era was a time of harsh persecution while George had a high rank. He stood out in all military operations for his bravery and valor.

In the hagiography he is illustrated with a wonderful posture and a bravery face, wearing his military uniform while killing the dragon, a terrible beast that is being torn to pieces under the feet of the horse. The horse in a dynamic pose and the purple cloak that is waving, give motion to the icon, create a sense of grandeur and amaze the viewer.

Father Peukis, with real knowledge of the Byzantine iconography, which he acquired on Mount Athos, imprinted the copy on canvas, with a gold leaf background and on carved wood with a sense of responsibility and absolute adherence to the traditional techniques and methods. This is illustrated in his wonderful works of Byzantine art, which have made him famous both nationally and internationally because of their excellent quality.
