The prototype of this specific hagiography, is the icon located on the Holy Monastery of Iviron on Mount Athos. We are referring to the icon of Virgin Mary that used to guard the monastery. According to the Holy tradition, the icon was vandalized by a pirate, who wounded with his sword the cheek of Virgin Mary. From there blood started to flow in a miraculous way.
