Lithography with the Nativity of Jesus

The Nativity of Jesus or Birth of Christ has long been counted as one of the biggest feasts. Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, was born of the Most Holy Virgin Mary in the city of Bethlehem during the reign of the emperor Augustus. According to Orthodox tradition Jesus was born in Bethlehem and since there was nowhere for Mary and Joseph to stay in the town, the infant was laid in a manger while angels announced his birth to a group of shepherds who worshipped him as Messiah and Lord. The Nativity is one of the greatest and most joyful events in the history of the world. The angel said to the shepherds, «Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people». The artistic depiction of the nativity has been an important subject for Christian artists since the 4th century.

Lithography: Characteristics

A beautiful lithography with the representations of the scene of Nativity of Jesus. Monks are learning the technique of lithography at iconography workshops at Mount Athos so they can create with love and patience these excellent artworks. At this icon the monk used a lithographic copy of Byzantine art to create this artwork. He also applied the process of artificial maturation by hand to give this icon unique aesthetic value. Lithography is a method of printing originally based on the immiscibility of oil and water.
