Lithography with Apostles Peter and Paul
At this lithography we have the representations of two of the most important persons of Christianity, apostles Paul and Peter. Paul was an apostle (although not one of the Twelve Apostles) and he is generally considered one of the most important figures in Orthodox Church. He also founded several churches in Asia Minor and Europe. It is known that apostle Paul was a persecutor of Jesus Christ but after a vision he had he became one of the biggest supporters of Christianity. According to tradition Paul was on his way to Damascus when he had the vision that changed his life. More specifically, Paul saw a blinding bright light that was Jesus and some time later he went to Jerusalem to become acquainted with the leading apostles there.
The Apostle Peter was the leader of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ and he followed him from the beginning of his preaching of salvation. His feast is celebrated on June 29 along with the Apostle Paul. Apostle Peter was given the name «Kephas». The precise meaning is «rock» but some scholars are saying that it means rather «stone» and particularly in its application by Jesus to him as «precious stone» or «jewel». Although most scholars agree that as a proper name it denotes a rough or tough character.
