Lithography with Saint Anastasia (Pharmakolytria)

Saint Anastasia had the gift to heal the sick. Saint Anastasia is characterized as a great martyr because of the tortures she suffered and Pharmacolytria because she was treating the sick and has the power to solve the spells. Saint Anastasia lived in Rome at the time of Emperor Diocletian. She was descended from a wealthy family and was baptized Christian and she was also distinguished for her beauty, education and her wisdom.

After the death of her husband Anastasia distributed her property to those less fortunate and suffering. As a Christian was arrested and tortured. Saint Anastasia’s relics were taken to Constantinople, where a church was dedicated to her. Later, a hand and her head were transferred to the Monastery of Saint Anastasia in Vasilica Thessaloniki.

The monk was taught the technique of lithography at the workshops of iconography at the monasteries of Mount Athos. This particular icon was crafted with the Byzanine style with both the technique of lithography and the process of artificial maturation by hand.
