Description
Lithography with Saint Spyridon
At this lithography we have the representations of Saint Spyridon. He was born in 270 AD, in Cyprus from a wealthy family of shepherds. He worked as a shepherd and was known for his great piety. He married and had one daughter, Irene but after the death of his wife, Spyridon entered a monastery. He became Bishop of Trimythous and he took part in the first Ecumenical council and the miracles he has done are infinite. He is the Protector of Corfu, where his relics are kept. It is said that when the Arabs took Cyprus, Spyridon’s body was disinterred and taken to Constantinople. The relics were found to be incorrupt and contained a sprig of basil both of which were taken as a sign of divine confirmation of his sanctity.
Lithography Saint Spyridon: Characteristics
A beautiful lithography with the representations of Saint Spyridon. Monks are learning the technique of lithography at iconography workshops at Mount Athos so they can create with love and patience these excellent artworks. At this icon the monk used a lithographic copy of Byzantine art to create this artwork. He also applied the process of artificial maturation by hand to give this icon unique aesthetic value. Lithography is a method of printing originally based on the immiscibility of oil and water.
