Description

Authentic Mount Athos Myrrh with strong healing properties

Mount Athos Myrrh is a real Athonite blessing. Unique and beneficial, it contains a mixture of 57 different medicinal plants and fragrances.

It is also known as «anointing oil”. Its symbolism is very important in the Orthodox Church as it signifies the gifts of Holy Spirit.

Myrrh comes from the word, marar, meaning to be grieved, make bitter, trickle, or to drop. Myrrh’s fragrance is sweet to the smell but bitter to the taste which reminds us of the sweetness of our redemption as well as the bitter price that Jesus paid to accomplish our salvation.

Mount Athos Myrrh: what does it symbolize?

It symbolizes the aroma of faith, the tenderness of the heart and the devotion of our Lord. As the Gospel mentions, a few days before the Crucifixion of Jesus, when he was in Bethany, at the house of Simon the leper, a woman approached him, holding an alabaster bowl of precious myrrh, with which she poured over His head (Mt. 26, 6- 7).

The Myrrh bearing women

It is also important to notice that Myrrh bearing women where named after this unique and therapeutic ointment!

The Sunday of the myrrh bearing women, or ointment-bearing women, is that of the second Sunday after Easter in the Orthodox Church. A group of women accompanied Christ and some ministered to Him out of their own resources. On the morning of the third day after His death they came to the tomb bearing ointments they had prepared to embalm His body. Hence they were called the Ointment-bearing women or Myrrh-bearing women.

Myrrh: what is it made of?

The preparation or baking of Myrrh is based on the biblical description of Moses in the Book of Exodus (Exodus 30, 22- 25).
Myrrh and its wonderful – healing gifts!

Athonite Myrrh stands out with its strong astringent, antioxidant, antimicrobial, expectorant, tonic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and healing properties.
