Description

Engraved Lithography with the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary or the Birth of Virgin Mary is a feast of the Mother of God and refers to the birth of the Virgin Mary. In fact, while the Christian Church is accustomed to celebrating the saints only on the day of their death, the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Baptist are an exception due to their important mission in the Christian religion. Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Most Holy Theotokos, thanks to their unlimited faith in God and their constant prayers, finally saw their greatest wish come true and had the child they prayed for. God gave them the Virgin Mary, the woman who would be blessed among women, the One who would bring into the world the Messiah Jesus Christ and she would become one of the most beloved persons of the Christian Religion.

Engraved Lithography: Characteristics

A wonderful icon, which has been created with the technique of lithography and is upgraded in quality and aesthetics thanks to the engraved natural wood, but also the gold leaf, which is used in the background of the representation. The technique of lithography is very widespread and is taught in the iconography workshops of Mount Athos, while at the same time it is used by several monks to create exceptional works of art. At this icon the monk used a lithographic copy of Byzantine art to create this artwork, while it is worth mentioning that the natural wood of the icon is worked exclusively by hand.
