Both prayer ropes and prayer handicrafts in general are an integral part of the monastic tradition and are at the same time a prayer aid, but also amulets.

Prayer Rope: Use

Prayer ropes usually consists of 33, 50 or even 100 knots, however there are larger ones, which can number 200 or 300 knots. A prayer rope  is an essential prayer aid for both clergy and monks, as well as for laity. Specifically, every time a prayer is said (usually short) we count a knot. This way you can control the number of repetitions or even the passage of time. According to Christian tradition, prayer ropes have their origin in Osios Pachomios in 320 AD. At that time the Saint began to look for a way to help the monks to concentrate during prayer. Then the Archangel Gabriel visited him in his sleep and showed him how to make the tool that would serve the needs of prayer.
