Monastic, handmade soap with lavender, made at the Agia Triada Monastery of the Greek orthodoxy. The soaps of the monastery are made by using the “cold process” method and have undergone prolong maturation. They are original, monastic products that have strong beneficial effects on human beings.
Ingredients: Olive oil, vegetable oils.
The method that is used by the monks for the manufacture of the Agia Triada soaps is the so-called “cold process”. During this process, the oils and fats are heated long enough to melt and be brought to the desired temperature, before being mixed with the caustic soda solution without further addition of heat. This is a time-consuming method because among others, long drying time is required and the maturation of the soaps is necessary in order for them to acquire optimum physical properties (softness, foaming, duration, etc.).
The important advantage of this method is that the rich in moisturizing properties glycerin, remains in the soap (and cannot be removed by boiling or salt, as compared with other methods). Thus, the soap has “natural” moisturizing properties. Also, since it has not been any oil purification (with boiling and desalination, as practiced in industry), in the cold process, high-quality oils must be used, because the quality of the result is “visible” on the soap.
