Description

Antique Lithography with Saint Alexius

Saint Alexius, the Man of God, was born in Rome. After being educated, at some point he left his home taking some money with him and went to Syria and from there to Mesopotamia. After distributing what he had to the poor, he dressed in old clothes and sat in the narthex of the church of the Most Holy Theotokos. He fasted all week and ate every Sunday. His parents searched for him without result.

Saint Alexios stayed in this church for 17 years and then returned to his home, but without revealing his identity and lived with the poor. He stayed in his paternal home for 17 years and shortly before surrendering his soul he wrote his whole life on paper. Eventually, after Divine intervention, Archbishop Innocent located the Man of God and only then did the identity of Saint Alexius become known. His holy relic was placed in pilgrimage and those who came and kissed it, blind, lepers or demonized, all were healed.
