Description

Gold Plated Lithography with Saint Aspasia

Saint Aspasia was one of the 40 virgins who were martyred in Edirne, Thrace because of their faith in God. Specifically, the ruler of the region arrested them as Christians and urged them to worship idols. When they were interrogated, they all sincerely confessed their faith, while with their prayer they crushed the idols. Then they took them to another place, but on the way Jesus appeared, giving them all courage. Eventually, the soldiers threw the 40 virgins at the beasts, but miraculously they fell asleep and did not touch them. They then lit a fire to burn them, but ten of them jumped into the flames on their own, while the rest were beheaded or slaughtered.
