Saint Barbara of Heliopolis
Saint Barbara throughout history has been the patron saint of artillerymen and firemen.
The holy and glorious Great-martyr Barbara of Heliopolis was an early Christian Saint and martyr. Accounts place her in the 3rd century in Heliopolis of Phoenicia, present-day Lebanon.
Her feast day is commemorated by the Greek Orthodox Church on December 4. Saint Barbara throughout history has been the patron saint of artillerymen and firemen not only in Greece but also abroad. She is also the protector against sudden death.
The hagiographer, Nectarios Nestos, who is responsible for the artificial aging and the details of the icon, has been taught the art of iconography on Mount Athos.
