Gold Plated Lithography with Saint Blaise

Saint Blaise lived at the years of emperor Licinius. He studied medicine but it is known that he treated patients without receiving money. Also, in addition to medical assistance he provided medicines free of charge to patients. According to tradition he had great charitable activity, which came from his love for God. He also, was bishop of Sebastea. However, because of his work he was arrested and subjected to horrific torture. The soldiers whipped him with sticks and hanged him, after that they led him to prison and finally they threw him to the bottom of a lake. But by the miraculous intervention of God he was saved. At the end he was beheaded and his memory is honored on February 11.

Gold Plated Lithography: Characteristics

This particular icon has been created with the technique of lithography and it has embossed letters a technique done entirely by hand. Monks are learning the technique of lithography at iconography workshops at Mount Athos so they can create with love and patience these excellent artworks. At this icon the monk used a lithographic copy of Byzantine art to create this artwork. He also applied the process of artificial maturation by hand to give this icon unique aesthetic value. In addition this icon has been gold plated and as a result the quality and overall aesthetics of the work is being upgraded.
