Antique Lithography with Saint Nectarios

An icon with the representation of Saint Nectarios of Aegina or the Wonderworker of Aegina, who was officially recognized as a Saint by the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople in 1961. He wrote, published, preached and heard confessions. Many people had regarded Nektarios as a Saint while he was still alive, because of his purity of life and the miracles he performed. In 1904, at the request of several nuns, he established Holy Trinity Monastery for them on the island of Aegina, where he also lived for the rest of his life as a monk.

The first posthumous miracle took place when the shirt of St. Nectarios was accidentally placed on the neighboring bed and a paralyzed man who was lying there was suddenly healed. His blessed memory is celebrated by the Church on November 9th. The funeral of St. Nectarios was attended by multitudes of people from all parts of Greece and Egypt.
