Engraved icon with Saint Paisios

This is an engraved icon with the representation of Saint Paisios the Hagiorite who was widely known for his life and asceticism. After his death the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew began his holy process and was ranked Paisios Saint of the Orthodox Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate on January 13, 2015. The Church celebrates his memory on July 12th.

Saint Paisios lived in the last years of his life in the cell of Panagouda, which he found abandoned. There he worked hard with a crowd of people who visited him by offering spiritual help with his prayers and teachings. At the same time, he continued his intense ascetic life to the point where he would rest a little every day. But he continued to accept and try to help the visitors. He also used to make «stamped» icons as a handiwork which he gave visitors as a blessing.

Engraved icon: Characteristics

The icon with the representation of Saint Paisios has been crafted in the workshop of Byzantine art of Father Pefkis and bears his signature, which also means the authenticity of this copy. This beautiful icon is painted with the silk screen painting technique and with excellent quality materials while the iconographer used natural wood. The iconographer covered the painted surface with pure beeswax in order to maintain the brightness and the vividness of the colors. The Byzantine workshop of Father Pefkis, since 1980, deals with the production of copies of portable images of the Byzantine and post-Byzantine period.
