Description

Hagiography with Gold depicting Saint Stephen!

Saint Stephen was the first Christian who martyred for his faith and this is the reason why he was called the First Martyr. His form is the beginning of a generation of martyrs, a brilliant generation in the history of the Christian Church. His memory is honored by the Church of the Greek Orthodoxy, on the 27th of December.

A unique hagiography that has been crafted by Mount Athos Monks

In this iconography, that was created by monks who live in the region of Saint Basil on Mount Athos, Saint Stephen is portrayed exactly in the same way he was used to be depicted in the middle Byzantine period, as a young deacon wearing his priestly garment. With his right hand, that is covered, he is holding a church and with his left one an incense burner.

The background of the image is made with 22K gold, while this unique work of Byzantine art is the result of hard work that requires skill and rigor.
