Saints Constantine & Helen – a unique artwork that has been crafted by father Pefkis!

This unique hagiography presents Saints Constantine & Helen adversarial of the Holy Cross. Saint Constantine is wearing a bright red cloak and a decorated gold cord, which symbolizes the shroud and resurrection of Christ.

With her pink mantle and the gold cord Saint Helen is depicted wearing a blue headgear. The faces are illustrated in order to show rigor and succeed in exuding a heavenly sweetness. The vivid colors and intense folds of the garments, the decoration and the linear output of the volumes describe a collectible artwork which has been signed by Father Pefkis.

The Byzantine hagiography workshop of Father Pefkis, since 1980, proceeds to the production of portable icons from the Byzantine and post-Byzantine period by following closely the Athonite style, contributing in this way to the transmission of our cultural heritage.
The vivid colors and intense folds of the garments, the decoration and the linear output of the volumes are what make the artwork special.
Saints Constantine & Helen have been crafted on canvas and natural wood, against a gold leaf background that has been coated with pure beeswax.

St Helen is the patron of blacksmiths because along with the Cross she found the iron nails with which Christ was crucified, while in Greece there are numerous traditions connected with her name. Along with her son Constantine, they are also considered protectors of the pilgrims to the Holy Land.

Saints Constantine & Helen – Composition & Technique

The icon has been crafted with high quality materials and the unique method of the loyal depiction of the forms that the Byzantine hagiography workshop of Father Pefkis faithfully follows. The details stand out with their vivid tones. The painted surface has been covered with pure beeswax in order to maintain unchanged over the passage of time.

This unique work of art has the signature of the Athonite academy student and well-known painter and priest father Pefkis. He faithfully follows the technique of icon painting and artificial aging as it was taught to him on Mount Athos next to well known hagiographer – monks.
