Description

Engraved Serigraph with Saints Paisios, John & Arsenios

This is an engraved serigraph with the representations of Saints Paisios, John & Arsenios. Saint Paisios was widely known for his life and asceticism. After his death the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew began his holy process and was ranked Paisios Saint of the Orthodox Church by the Ecumenical Patriarchate on January 13, 2015. Saint Paisios lived in the last years of his life in the cell of Panagouda, which he found abandoned. There he worked hard with a crowd of people who visited him by offering spiritual help with his prayers and teachings. At the same time, he continued his intense ascetic life to the point where he would rest a little every day.

Saint John the Theologian was a fisherman and he had a brother, who was Saint James another apostle. Saint John was the youngest of the twelve apostles, and especially close to the Lord. This closeness is often portrayed in icons of the mystical supper, where St. John leans on Jesus. Saint John was exiled to the island of Patmos by Emperor Domitian around 90-95 A.D., and it was there that he received and wrote the Book of Revelation.

Saint Arsenios was widely known for his ascetic life and his non-negotiable faith to God. He lived with self-denial, loving and honoring first God and then his neighbor. It is known that two days of the week Wednesday and Friday he was confined to his cell and prayed. His remains were transferred by Saint Paisios at the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian at Souroti, Thessaloniki.

Engraved Serigraph: Characteristics

A beautiful engraved serigraph on natural wood. The iconographer uses shiny background in gold colour highlighting the forms and the characteristics of the saints and giving visually a polished type effect. Engraved icons incorporates a special technique something that gives the icon an excellent aesthetic style.

Serigraph is a common technique in iconography and as a result is being taught and used in many iconography workshops including the ones at Mount Athos. At iconographies that are made with this particular technique monks are using modern and traditional methods, which means that the iconographer creates a part of the icon by hand and with less participation of technology. This icon is crafted with excellent materials on natural wood so it remains intact and with bright colours.
