The Merciful Christ
It is the work of the hagiographers – monks from the Holy Monastery of Xenophontos which has been adorned with 22K genuine gold leaf.
In this unique work of Byzantine art, Jesus is depicted frontally, blessing with his right hand while holding a closed gospel adorned with precious stones with his left one. With his expressive eyes he is gazing at the viewer while having the royal grandeur of the Creator and the rigor of the Fair Judge.
In his face, the hagiographers from the Holy Monastery of Xenophontos, have managed to attribute a classy style, while the brushstrokes are lost within this wonderful composition. The garment is rich in folds and vibrant in colors. Purple and dark blue are the two colors that have been used symbolically. The purple color symbolizes the divine nature while the blue one the human nature of Jesus.
