Description

Virgin Mary Eleousa a unique artwork that has been crafted by father Pefkis!

Virgin Mary is depicted left-handed. She is turning her body slightly and is tilting her head to Christ, who is embracing with his left hand the face of his mother. Virgin Mary is wearing a blue tunic and a maphorion in a green Byzantine color with gold ornaments and a star on her shoulders and forehead. The tunic of Christ is orange – gold and the himation white. The faces are rounded and pale.

The background is gold and the image has been worked with dedication and above all faith to her sacredness with the method of the antique painting technique. It has been crafted on natural wood from the Byzantine iconography workshop of Father Pefkis who has studied the art of iconography on Mount Athos and the Athonite Academy for four years.

Virgin Mary Eleousa icon has been crafted with high quality materials and the unique method of the loyal depiction of the forms that the Byzantine hagiography workshop of Father Pefkis faithfully follows. The details stand out with their vivid tones. The painted surface has been covered with pure beeswax in order to maintain unchanged over the passage of time.

This unique work of art has the signature of the Athonite academy student and well-known painter and priest father Pefkis. He faithfully follows the technique of icon painting and artificial aging as it was taught to him on Mount Athos next to well known hagiographer – monks.
