Description

Hagiography Virgin Mary Ierosolymitissa

The most beloved person of the Orthodoxy after the three persons of the Holy Trinity is Virgin Mary. The beloved form of the Mother of God has taken its final form in our iconographic tradition. The face of Virgin Mary is calm and serious and has rare nobility, which stems from the characteristic simplicity of the form. Its main features are very delicate and harmonious. The eyes are large and almond-shaped, the nose is thin and straight and the mouth is small and restrained. The hair cannot be seen.

The whole form of Virgin Mary Ierosolymitissa is full of symbolisms and doctrinal teachings. The large eyes see through the heart, the slim nose shows true nobility and freedom from the stench of the world. Her beauty is timeless because it is spiritual.

The genuine icon of Virgin Mary Ierosolymitissa

The Most Holy Lady of Jerusalem is a very popular icon of Virgin Mary because it overlooks the empty tomb of the Most Holy Theotokos at the Sepulcher of the Mother of God in Gethseman-blessing the numerous pilgrims visiting the Holy Land of Jerusalem.
