With this Cathedral is highly connected the reverence with Virgin Mary Kasperofskaya. In front of this icon has been down on his knees and prayed the archbishop Innocent at the years of the Crimean War at 19th century begging the Virgin Mary to protect the city. Indeed his prayers were heard and since then Virgin Mary Kasperofskaya became a symbol for the Orthodox Christians of that region.
