Description

The prototype of Virgin Mary Paramythia is located at the Holy Monastery of Vatopaidi. The main iconographic type of Virgin Mary stemmed from the age-old type of the Mother of God with the newborn infant in her lap. In the Christian art this specific type, which symbolized the eternal rebirth and continuity of life – the victory over death – acquires a specific theological content.

Working towards this direction, the former student of the Athonite Academy at Mount Athos, Father Pefkis, created this unique artwork. The iconography is coated with pure beeswax in order to remain unchanged over time.
