This icon with Virgin Mary Pregnant is a very rare representation of Theotokos. At this icon we see Virgin Mary and behind Her are two angels carrying a red cloth trying to protect Her. Virgin Mary has Her hands in front of Her like She is trying to protect Her unborn child. Virgin Mary Pregnant is the protector of all pregnant women and of the couples that are trying to have a baby. This representation of Virgin Mary is not very common although the Orthodox Church gives emphasis on motherhood.

Blessed Wood that Came out of Paradise

A beautiful icon with Virgin Mary Pregnant on naturally aged wood which comes from a renovated cell at Mount Athos. Every part of this cell is connected with the monks who lived there and carries within blessings and prayers from many years ago. At Mount Athos are dozens of  cells and some of them are located there for centuries.

After the renovation works monks decided to use this wood for icons. On the back side of the icon two parallel cross – beams have been placed to support the image as well as a leather hook.

As this icon is handmade and the wood processing is made exclusively by hand there might be small differences at the wood but not on the representation
